G.I. Blues was Elvis Presley’s eerste film na zijn militaire dienst en werd opgenomen in de Paramount Studios, met enkele pre-productiescènes die tijdens zijn diensttijd op locatie in Duitsland werden gefilmd. De film was een commercieel succes, met een populaire soundtrack, en staat bekend om zijn luchtige musical-komedie stijl die zijn muziekcarrière combineerde met zijn acteercarrière. Het productieteam gebruikte slimme technieken om de locatie- en studioscènes op elkaar af te stemmen, zoals het gebruik van geprojecteerde achtergronden voor Duitse landschappen die tijdens Elvis’ afwezigheid waren gefilmd.
